Practice Overview - Weight Loss Surgery |
The Houston Obesity and Metabolic Disease Clinic (HOMDC) is an integrated multi-physician clinic which specializes in the treatment and care of a variety of disorders that occur due to metabolic and endocrine abnormalities. The Practice has been recognized by the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons (ASBS) as a Center of Excellence for Obesity Surgery due to the quality of its care.
The most frequent problem our patients have is morbid obesity and the many problems associated with it, such as, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, high cholesterol and fats in the blood, obstructive sleep apnea, asthma, gallstones, gout, lower extremity venous insufficiency, fatty liver disease, polycystic ovarian syndrome, infertility, and an increased risk of certain types of cancer. We offer a comprehensive approach to the care of people suffering from morbid obesity. Patients have access to a wide range of treatment plans, from medically supervised diets, nutrition and vitamin plans, to all of the proven effective surgical procedures including laparoscopic gastric bypass, the laparoscopic adjustable gastric band, and the laparoscopic gastric sleeve operation. Lifelong patient follow-up is anticipated with evaluation of weight-loss, nutrition and resolution of associated medical conditions.
The clinic also provides care for patient with disorders of the thyroid and parathyroid glands. Patients will be able to have a “one stop”, complete evaluation at the clinic, with a subsequent comprehensive diagnosis and treatment plan. Long term patient follow-up with evaluation of endocrine status is considered standard. If surgery is indicated an experienced thyroid/parathyroid surgeon will see the patient for continued treatment.
